Jutta Curatolo: Jazz Up Your Hallways

Hallways are usually the last thing that comes to mind when redecorating your home. However, hallways are an important part of our home. Hallways are great for splitting rooms up to extra space, while also allowing for a walking path from one side of our homes to another. Without hallways, our created space would be very crowded. However, this walking space doesn’t have to be forgotten about when redecorating your home. Here are some ideas to jazz up those hallways and create a space you’ll want to hangout in all day.

Play with your lights

Whoever said lights have to shine from up top? Creating a space with various forms of lighting is a great way to add some spark to your hallway. Although it may take some electrical work, don’t be afraid of adding step lights to the floor of your hallway to allow it to light up when you walk. You can also play around and add some lighting to the middle of your walls. These lights can actually help cut your monthly utility bills as they will use less energy. For the ultimate look, be sure to add photographs and paintings to show off and create a space that will really come to life.

Add storage space

A great way to add extra space for all the extra things laying around your home, while making your hallways come to life, adding storage space could actually benefit your home. One way you can add storage space is by adding shelves to your walls. Don’t be afraid of getting creative here. For example, you can hang up random items in your hallway that will make it pop, or you can focus on a more traditional idea of using this space for books and accessory decorations. Another idea may be to add a sitting bench, cubbys or standing book shelves to your hallways. This will allow you to create a space that is not only for walking through, but also as an option for rest and relaxation.

Incorporate Color and Texture

You don’t have to paint your walls the same off-white color in every hallway. If you’re feeling creative, don’t be afraid to go wild and crazy with your wall colors, while adding texture, such as wood or organic pieces such as bamboo or living plants.  Hallways are a great place to let out your creative spirit, so don’t be afraid of adding bold colors here. This is also a great place to add colorful rugs, as it will help make your hallways look longer.
